- Must be a high school graduate, have completed a technical apprentice program in the Carpentry Trade or possess the equivalent in educational and practical experience.
- Possess five (5) or more years’ experience in the Carpentry Trade.
- Must possess journey level knowledge of the potential occupational hazards connected with carpentry work and the associated safety standards and practices, which should be applied.
- Ability to work, with proficiency, across the range of trade skills normally encountered by the carpentry trade in all kinds of facilities. This includes ability to carry out work from the planning stage through test and checkout inspection. Includes building construction and alteration including framing, doors, windows and invisible repair and renewal of damages.
- Ability to safely and effectively work with all types of carpenter trades hand and power tools such as table saws, radial arm saws, planers, joiners, shapers, routers, band saws, nailing guns, hammers, levels, etc.
- Ability to make and repair high grade wooden items such as fine cabinetry and other finish work involving skills and knowledge to shape and control surfaces. Perform precise, intricate joining and decoration of wooden items.
- Ability to handle investigations of difficult work problems, evaluate alternative solutions and recommend sound recommendation to supervisors
- Possess a positive attitude, work independently and in teams, along with a willingness to assume responsibility, including self-reliance in solving problems encountered during a project and to complete assignments in a satisfactory and timely manner.
- Must be able to read and interpret drawings, layouts, and develop materials lists.
- Must have the ability to perform mathematical calculations related to the performance of carpentry repairs.
- Have solid working knowledge of all applicable building codes and regulations.
- Possess the ability to handle investigations of difficult work problems, evaluate alternative solutions and recommend sound recommendation to supervisors.
- Must be a self-starter with initiative to seek and tackle difficult tasks.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to pass a background check.
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements listed below.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

- bend, squat, kneel, lie down, crawl, knee stand, dig, use hammer drills, push or pull with forces up to 100 pounds occasionally (up to 33% of the workday);
- climb stairs and ladders, reach overhead, push or pull with forces up to 50 pounds frequently (34 – 66% of the workday);
- Work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and environmental conditions;
- Possess ability to work at heights, physical agility and full range of motion, and ability to maintain balance.
