Overview

A member of the Venue Services division of Campus Support Services, the Venue Logistics Assistant for the Environmental Studies and School of Engineering and Applied Science (ES/SEAS) complex provides daily operational support for the central loading dock. As part of the venue team in the complex, the Associate assists with one-stop facility support, supporting tenants and users of the space with loading dock needs including the coordination of deliveries of specialty lab equipment, gasses, and packages, as well as operational deliveries such as catering, food, furniture, and supplies.

 

The Venue Logistics Assistant is part of a team that supports the daily operations of the central loading dock. The team works collaboratively and in support of the five department tenants and campus partners to manage the safe movement, transport, and receiving of deliveries. With a focus on safety and compliance, the Assistant will help ensure deliveries are coordinated efficiently, accurately, and in a timely manner.

 

The Venue Logistics Assistant is responsible for the receiving packages for tenants of the complex. Working collaboratively with Print and Mail Services and commercial delivery operators, the Assistant will receive, document, and secure mail and packages arriving in the loading dock. The Assistant is responsible for sorting mail and packages and placing the majority in dedicated package delivery lockers for tenants to access in both the ES and SEAS locker systems in a timely manner. For priority deliveries, the Assistant will help with notifications to user groups. In some cases, the Assistant helps transport items, such as larger lab furniture, equipment, and supplies to the labs or offices. The Assistant assists users with accessing packages from the locker systems as needed. The Assistant will also provide users with assistance in packing and unpacking crates, including fragile materials.

 

The Venue Logistics Assistant supports activity for other deliveries, including internal and external catering deliveries, food deliveries for the café, and supply deliveries for departments. The Assistant supports drivers and delivery teams by directing loading and unloading procedures and assisting with the movement of goods throughout the complex. The Venue Logistics Assistant will work collaboratively with users and Facilities to help support equipment surplus and bulk disposal of unneeded items.

 

As part of the Venue Services team, the Venue Logistics Assistant provides operational support, as needed, for the venues team, including assisting with the support of daily operations. As part of the Campus Support Services department, the Venue Logistics Assistant participates in departmental functions and is part of a cross-unit team providing support for major events in the complex and on campus.

 

The Venue Logistics Assistant provides exceptional support for users of the spaces. With high visibility and a pro-active approach, the Assistant is readily available to address the needs of users of the facility. The position requires the ability to interact with campus community and external vendors. With a foundation of service excellence, the Assistant is a key support resource for the users of the complex.

Responsibilities

Daily operational support for the central loading dock operations
o Assists with loading dock vehicular movement, loading/unloading, and safe transport of goods
o Responsible for the receiving of packages for tenants and the distribution of packages into lockers for tenant access. In some cases, will assist with distribution of packages and goods to labs and offices throughout the complex. Will also assist departments with outgoing packages.
o Support other deliveries, including catering, food, supplies, assisting with vehicular direction, unloading/loading, and movement of goods throughout the complex
o Assists users with bulk disposal, surplus, packing/unpacking for user groups
o Assists with maintaining a clean, well-organized, and safe environment

 

As member of the Venue Services team, assists with support for complex operations
o As needed, provides supplemental support for the daily operations

 

Additional duties, including:
o Participates in University Services and Campus Support Services meetings and initiatives
o Assists with Campus Support Services support for major events
o Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

o High school diploma
o Demonstrated knowledge of logistics and operations
o Demonstrated understanding of excellent customer service
o Willingness and ability to work with a flexible schedule, including early mornings, and occasional late nights, weekends, holidays and long hours

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

o Experience working in higher education or research facility
o Knowledge of OSHA health and safety guidelines

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

o lift up to 100 pounds in a range of motions from floor to waist height;
o lift up to 50 pounds in a range of motions from floor to overhead;
o work outdoors and on a loading dock in a variety of environmental conditions;
o possess full range of body motions and physical agility.

 

Candidate will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment physical.
