Overview

The Loading Dock Attendant reports to the Building Manager of PNI and Psychology and is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Neuroscience and Psychology loading dock.

Responsibilities

  • Unloads and distributes all incoming freight including equipment; checks quality and quantity against original purchase orders;
  • Sorts and delivers all incoming mail from the US Postal Service, UPS, Federal Express and campus mail to the appropriate administrative office; organizes express carrier needs including maintaining and ordering a supply of shipping boxes, tubes, packing materials, pallets, banding equipment, etc. as necessary;
  • Monitors and maintains inventory of consumable materials (gas, dry ice); places orders with suppliers and notifies labs of deliveries; delivers cylinders to laboratories as requested;
  • Maintains supplies in copier rooms;
  • Assists in taking physical inventory of stock items; Maintains and updates capital equipment database and asset tags for all research equipment; Maintains surplus database;
  • One of the team members responsible for arranging key and electronic (prox) access for all building residents;
  • Assists Building Manager with safety and compliance tasks and other building needs;
  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma is required with previous loading dock experience;
  • Must be able to lift and move freight and gas cylinders;  Must be able to lift/carry up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 100 pounds occasionally.  Works outdoors in a variety of environmental conditions on a loading dock:  may stand or walk for two to four hours at a time during the day.  Will be required to pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Competency will basic computer applications; willing to learn computer programs in support of inventory and purchasing processes;
  • Must have a valid driver’s license;
  • Willing to cover for co-workers as necessary;
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to function effectively in a team-based environment.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Knowledge of proper handling of packages, chemicals, cylinders and other lab equipment;
  • Some college preferred;
  • Computer experience preferred.
