  • Overview

    Excellent working knowledge of door hardware, door & frame construction and electro/mechanical door hardware, and be capable of carrying out installations, repairs and/or modifications to doors, locks and other related hardware with minimum oversight.

     

    This position is a 3 month temporary position.

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. (Other duties may be assigned.)

     

    1. Perform all facets of the lock and key trades including repair and installation of locks, overhead and in floor closers and other related hardware. Perform various types of lock and exit device door hardware maintenance.
    2. Diagnose operational problems in locks and other hardware related to the door.
    3. Dismantle all types of locks such as padlocks, door locks, safe locks and repair or replace worn tumblers, springs and other parts.
    4. Shall be familiar with “SFIC” key systems.
    5. Perform other duties as assigned, including overtime assignments and emergency call-in work. May carry pager/radio/cell phone if necessary.
    6. He/she will be provided with training so as to be able to perform basic maintenance repairs and troubleshooting of power sources and other electric/electronic devices related to the door with minimum guidance.

    Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

    1. Experienced tradesperson with 5 or more years experience beyond completion of an apprenticeship or equivalent formal training in the Locksmith field.

      2. Capable of performing quality installations of and repairs to doors & door frames and installations and maintenance repairs of all mechanical and electro/mechanical door hardware, hinges, door closers and other hardware related to the door.

      3. Capable of performing basic maintenance repairs and trouble shooting to electric hinges, door contacts and switches with minimal guidance.

      4. Perform all required coordination efforts and performing the required record keeping.

      5. Apply acceptable practices in the field and follow all applicable codes.

      6. Skilled in the use of the tools of the trade.

      7. Ability to understand drawings and service manuals for equipment serviced.

      8. Capable of carrying a 6 foot stepladder up or down several flights of stairs and be capable of working off stepladders.

      9. Possess a basic understanding of low voltage devices, electric circuits and electrical safety as it relates to card access/electronic security systems

      10. Ability to follow detailed instructions, oral or written, and have the ability to modify instructions to fit the situation.

      11. Good communication skills to communicate with customers and with his/her supervisor and other shop employees working normal working hours.

      12. Must have a high record of dependability and have the capacity to work alone.


    A valid driver's license is required.

    A high school diploma or equivalent and formal training (four year vocational school or equivalent) of considerable knowledge of the principals and practices of the locksmith trade.

     

    • Recognized journey level skills in the lock and key field
    • Broad experience with door and hardware
    • Must be able to use a variety of power tools, involved in the trade
    • Must be able to read and interpret layout specifications and develop materials list
    • Five years on the job experience beyond a completed apprenticeship or equivalent formal training.
    • Ability to work independently with minimum written or verbal direction and without supervision.
    • Good ability to work with others. 
    • Valid drivers license

     

    EDUCATION:

     

    • High school diploma or equivalent
