  • Overview

    The Supervisor of Building Services is responsible for overseeing all phases of cleaning within the University. Work sites will vary but do include dormitories, multi- family housing units, academic buildings, athletic buildings, lab/research areas and office areas. Typical tasks will include insuring that buildings are clean, supplies are available, safety conditions are appropriate and employees are trained and motivated. The incumbent will be expected to report and track building repairs and tasks via a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). The incumbent will regularly meet with employees, provide employee evaluations, meet with customers and inspect appropriate areas for cleanliness.


    It is also expected that Supervisors will enforce University policies via coaching, training and use of the disciplinary process.


    • Inspect the work of subordinate employees for maintenance, cleaning and safety needs. Insure that employees comply with all University and Departmental policies.
    • Meet with customers to measure customer satisfaction.
    • Develop employee skills via the appraisal process, coaching, encouragement, training and use of the disciplinary process.
    • Order and maintain supply and equipment levels as necessary.
    • Oversee and coordinate event set-ups and preparation, working with other works groups.
    • Insure proper and safe use of equipment and chemicals.
    • Maintain employee time records and provide billing documentation when needed.
    • Report and track building repairs and tasks via a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
    • Give directions and assign work to his/her work group.
    • Must be able to exercise good judgment and make good decisions quickly.
    • Work Overtime as needed.
    • Triage emergency situations and coordinate response efforts with various departmental groups.


    • High School Diploma or GED.
    • A minimum of three years of janitorial supervisory experience in a housekeeping environment.
    • Must be able to read and write the English language.
    • Must be able to communicate both written and verbal instructions clearly.
    • Must be able to work overtime; before the start of shift, after shift end, weekends, holidays, etc.
    • Must be able to work during extreme weather conditions.
    • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
    • Must be able to climb and work from a six-foot stepladder.
    • Must have a valid driver's license.
    • Work in inclement work conditions. Operate snow removal equipment.
    • Must be able to negotiate stairs and stand or walk for 2-4 hours at a time for 6-8 hours a day.
